George Weinmann is Managing Director of Wei Li Capital, a US based family office, and of Challenge Aerospace, a merchant banking firm. He was previously Senior Director for Strategy, Marketing and Sales at Blue Origin covering the Indo-Pacific and Middle East regions. Previously at Blue Origin, George had roles leading Business Design functions for the Space Systems Development division and Enterprise Development for the Orbital Reef commercial space station program.
George came to Blue Origin from Seabury Capital, a New York and London based aviation and aerospace investment banking firm where he established its Beijing office and led business planning and capital raising engagements across Asia. George was previously the founder and CEO of MEGA Maldives Airlines, a pioneering flag carrier that created new routes to the Maldives from China, India, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Korea, amongst other markets and accomplished a number of significant aero-political firsts including the first Hajj flights by a Maldivian carrier and the first fifth-freedom flights between Beijing and Tokyo.
George began his career as an engineer at Boeing on the international Sea Launch program prior to joining the strategic assessment group at Boeing Space and Communications division headquarters. While at Boeing, George supported the acquisition of Hughes Space and Communications and the launch and early operations of Boeing Ventures, a $200 million corporate venture effort. During and after his MBA studies, George founded and led a proposed low-cost airline startup in Asia, successfully recruiting an international management team and raising substantial U.S. and Asian capital to launch the business.
George earned a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA with high distinction from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. He is an alumnus of the International Space University and of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. George is an aviator and enjoys travel, sailing, science fiction and fact, and conversing on contemporary international relations.
